Who is behind LeichtErklärt, and how the explanations are made.

Who we are

NebenProjekte is run by Viktor Estrela Jonas and Louise Christiane Jonas, together as Louise Y Viktor Jonas S.L., based in Sant Llorenc des Cardassar, Mallorca. Our day job is a local drinks delivery service. LeichtErklärt is our side project, written in the evenings and at weekends.

Why this site exists

Viktor knows what it feels like when a topic is rushed through in twenty minutes and you are left holding a formula you can copy but not explain. That is what this site is for: one topic, one page, in plain language, with an example you can actually work through. No sign-up, no paywall, no newsletter.

How a page is written

• Choice of topic: we pick topics where the usual explanation falls short — for instance why there are two high tides a day rather than one.
• Structure: first the question, then the idea behind it, and only then the formula, always together with a worked example.
• Drawings: where a sketch explains more than a paragraph, we draw it ourselves and embed it in the page so it works on a phone too.
• Checking: we recalculate every numerical example before a page goes live. If someone reports a mistake, we correct it.
• Languages: every topic appears in German, English and Spanish. We live between those three languages and read each version ourselves before publishing.

What we are not

We are not teachers and not a university. LeichtErklärt replaces neither lessons nor textbooks; it helps you understand when neither is getting you anywhere. If you are sitting an exam, check the material against your own school's resources as well.

How it is funded

The pages are free and funded by advertising. We take no payment for covering a topic or presenting it in a particular way, and there is no sponsored content.
